Alberta:
The Alberta government is reversing the increase to the education tax announced in the 2020 budget – this would save households $55 million and businesses $32 million a year. The government will defer its portion of six months worth of the education property tax on non-residential properties. The provincial portion of property taxes will now be due Dec. 31st.

**The City of Winnipeg Assessment web site regarding the late payment of 2020 business and property taxes due to COVID. Penalties were waived for a period of five months, and all taxes will be due on December 1, 2020. Penalties will be imposed beginning on December 1, 2020 at a rate 2.50% per month. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, certain municipalities have decided to implement tax relief measures to address the economic impact of this emergency situation.
Here are a few that we have been made aware of:
Montreal – The City of Montreal is postponing by a month this year’s second instalment in property taxes for both residential and commercial properties, the new deadline for property taxes is July 2nd.
