ATLANTIC UPDATE

The Government of New Brunswick (GNB) is continuing to pursue assessment and property tax overhaul in New Brunswick as part of the current government’s 2024 election platform. I held meetings in the spring of 2025 to collect feedback from our members and relayed it to GNB in two separate meetings over the summer. GNB’s initial consultations closed at the end of August and the province began assembling a report on their findings.

A follow up in-person workshop was held at the start of November in Fredericton. I again attended on behalf of the CPTA. At this session GNB released their report on the consultations (https://www.gnb.ca/content/dam/GNB3/gov/cemc/doc/2025-26-property-tax-report-en.pdf). They have not yet released IPTI’s report on the assessment and taxation system in New Brunswick which is understood to be with elected officials. Commentary from GNB at the workshop suggested that there may be another follow up meeting however nothing has been scheduled.

Atlantic members also held a holiday get together at the Lion’s Head Tavern in Halifax on November 29th. Thanks to all who attended!
