ATLANTIC SEMINAR & SOCIAL UPDATE

Presently, our Atlantic members in NS, NB, NL and PEI form part of the Eastern/Quebec Chapter. Buoyed by interest from an engaged Atlantic contingent, and recognizing that it’s geographically challenging for those members to attend Chapter-level educational and networking functions, the CPTA’s membership gave the National Board a mandate to explore potential establishment of an Atlantic Chapter at 2024’s Annual General Meeting in Calgary.
Our Atlantic membership, grateful for the opportunity, took its mandate seriously. On April 9th, the CPTA’s Board travelled to Halifax to lend support to a small committee of Atlantic members who organized an inaugural educational and networking event held at the Westin Hotel- site of 2027’s National Workshop.
The afternoon function attracted 40 attendees from the local property tax, appraisal, accounting and legal communities, and was, by all accounts, a highly successful event. Sessions included a panel of three prominent members of the Halifax development community, who provided frank and informative insight into the local housing market; a presentation from a Nova Scotia-based appraiser, James Stephens, on the growing influence of Carbon Projects and their impact on woodland asset values across Canada; and, to wrap things up, the CPTA’s own Michael Crosbie, and his Halifax-based legal partner, Gavin Giles, provided a lively and informative update on recent case law developments in the Atlantic region.
The day’s sessions were followed by a well-attended networking event.
Encouraged by the success of the inaugural offering, the Atlantic membership will build on its momentum and will follow up with a second event in late Fall, as the Board continues to explore potential establishment of an Atlantic Chapter.
Stay tuned for further updates.
